Peerlyst Design Hackathon

UX/UI | 2 ux dESIGNERS | 5 HOURS

My first Hackathon and we won FIRST PLACE!

Peerlyst is a platform for security professionals to share their expertise and learn from others by writing posts and asking questions. In this 5-hour design hackathon, I teamed with 1 UX designer to design a job page for the existing website with a mobile responsive approach.

Overview

THE CHALLENGE

Peerlyst wants a non-traditional job board for security professionals to discover new career opportunities and increase user engagement with other parts of the site.

THE SOLUTION

A daily job match board where users can discover new opportunities, compare with more qualified peers and realize what exactly they need to work on to improve their own profile.

Design Strategy

Peerlyst generates traffic mostly from users writing posts. Our design motivates users to write posts with specific tags to improve their qualification for jobs.

The CEO clearly stated that most users are not looking for jobs actively. The board doesn't need to show a list of jobs like traditional job sites. The business goal is to attract professionals to keep coming back and keep writing more posts.

You all know that Peerlyst is a place where InfoSec professionals can share information with peers, build reputation with blog posts, and stay on top of security news. You might not know that Peerlyst is soon to be a place where CISOs get to explore future opportunities, and set their goals to get closer to the next level of their career path.

Here's how it works:

Our 2-min Pitch

Retrospective

Our ability to question, listen and empathize with the CEO was the main reason for our success.

It was my first hackathon and I was honored to win it with my teammate Jasmine Wang. While other teams went directly to work after hearing the prompt, my team spent extra time talking to the CEO to clarify the problem. Only after we were able to identify the real problem, then we came up with a solution that precisely addresses it.
