Farewell My Concubine Film Title
FOCUS: NARRATIVE | partner: yunan Xue
Chinese film Farewell My Concubine (1993) is an epic spanning a half-century of modern Chinese history and a melodrama about life backstage at the famed Peking Opera. It tells the story of two men, who met as Peking Opera apprentices, and stayed friends for over 50 years.
My partner and I made the film title to capture the essence of the film and to foreshadow the drama. Since it is such an iconic Chinese film, we decided to use iconic Chinese colors, red and blue. Ink is also used because of its importance in Chinese culture. We dropped ink into a tank to create organic and dynamic movements that serves as a metaphor of the movements in Beking Opera.
